Since 2005 Dr. Douglas S. Wakefield is the Director of the University of Missouri-Columbia Center for Health Care Quality, and professor in the Department of Health Management and Informatics. He previously served as Professor and Head of the University of Iowa Department of Health Management and Policy form 1996 – 2005. His research interests are in patient care quality, safety and value improvement. Dr. Wakefield’s research has been funded from a variety of sources including, AHRQ, HRSA, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Northwest Area Foundation, John Deere Health Foundation, and the Veterans Administration. Recently funded research includes grants from AHRQ in two of which he has the lead role in evaluating the implementation of electronic health systems and computer provider order entry systems in hospitals. In the third and fourth he is a co-investigator on grants examining the value of health information technologies in rural settings, and ambulatory settings to improve chronic disease management.
